Ask your council to support projects like Pantries
Pantries do fantastic work to bring communities together, and to prevent people reaching severe crisis.
Research has shown that they lead to improved community connection, new friendships, improved self-confidence, better diet, and improved physical and mental health. AND - research shows that people who attend Pantries are much less likely to reach the point where they have to skip meals or use a food bank.
The way localised crisis is support is provided in England has changed, and we want to make sure the vital work of Pantries (and similar projects) is not overlooked.
The new Crisis and Resilience Fund has now replaced the Household Support Fund. All councils are being allocated funding to provide effective crisis support and to improve financial resilience in their areas.
Local authorities are developing their own systems to achieve these goals. We want to know what is happening in different parts of the country, so that good practice can be collated and shared. We also want to make sure that, as well as providing individual support, councils fund projects like Pantries that bring neighbourhoods together to develop shared community strength and resilience.
Our shared social security system is one of the UK’s great political achievements. It is there to ensure that any of us can access support when we need it, and it’s vital that we get this next development right.
Please contact your local council leader. Enter your details, and we'll provide a template message on the next page.
