Ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 687

Pantries do fantastic work to bring communities together, and to prevent people reaching severe crisis.

You know this, and we know this. Now, we want to help MPs to further understand that too - with your help!

There is a new Early Day Motion in Parliament, all about Pantries and similar projects.

Early Day Motions aren't about changing laws, but they are a good way to help MPs to understand an issue more fully, and to show their support. They can bring issues into focus, so that when Government policies do change, some of the groundwork has been laid.

This one highlights the positive impact that projects like Pantries have in addressing hunger, poverty, food insecurity and anxiety, and in fostering community. It praises the amazing volunteers, and encourages MPs to promote Pantries as solutions to the issues communities face. It also encourages the Government to recognise that Pantries and similar food clubs are one of the most promising place-based approaches to reducing poverty and food bank use. You can read the motion in full here.

Perhaps your MP already knows about the great work that projects like Pantries do. Perhaps they've not yet seen it for themselves. Either way please ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 687, by completing the form on this page.

We've written a draft message on the next page, but feel free to edit it.

With best wishes,

From Ellie, James, and Jen at Your Local Pantry
